Music Curriculum

band directory with his students
In the Isles District the study of music is important. As stated in the “Arts Education for Life and Work,” a 1997 publication of the Getty Education Institute for the Arts:
“In classrooms across the nation, experience has repeatedly demonstrated that when the arts are taught in a comprehensive program, they are also a medium for developing cognitive sills that carry over in other areas. These include the abilities to generate new ideas in other words to think holistically. These are the same qualities embodies in the broader goals of educational reform, and they are exactly the arbitrates that children will need to succeed in the 21st century.”
The DoDDS goals for learning in music were recently revised. In the revision process, educators and parents reviewed the latest research and trends in music education, and wrote content standards. In music there are ten standards. These standards shape the lessons and learning at all levels. The DoDDS program provides a progressive music literacy program sequence, K-12.
