| http://www.nationalhistoryday.com | This site provides all contest information, news, rubrics, and materials for teachers, and sites for students and parents. |
| http://www.historychannel.com | This site provides a wealth of resources by time period, streaming video footage of historical incidents, what happened on today’s date in history (great for a sponge activity), newsletters, and quizzes. |

This site has many online resources strictly dedicated to history and English. If you want to incorporate journal or newspaper articles, I would recommend going to Ebsco. Ask your Information Specialist for the password for your school. |
| http://webquest.org | This site provides a search engine for looking for pre-made WebQuests. You can have students work through several that you have selected and then create their own on a team basis or individually to share with other students. Lots of fun and Higher Order Thinking Skills! |
| Inspiration | Inspiration (either 6.0 or 7.0) is a graphic organizer program that you can use in your classrooms to have students narrow topics. In your classrooms, start the lesson with a topic and have students brainstorm. When you receive answers put them into the program and students have visual that they can follow. Use the RapidFire button in the toolbar to make fast organizers. Students are generally very good at this program too, and you can have them use it independently as well. |
| Common Drive | Have your ET work with you to set a folder on the school’s common drive. Ask him or her to give you Admin rights to your folder. Then you can create folders for each of your students. You can place all of the Nation History Day documents on the common drive to battle the “I lost the paper; can I have another?” Tell the students that they can go to the common drive to get their own information. Students can also submit their daily process papers on the Common Drive. You can go back in to their folders, write a comment, save, and the students can see your comments the next time they look in the Common Drive. Have your ET help with creating folders so that it doesn’t become too overwhelming. |
| Gaggle.net | Gaggle.net is the student email program that DoDEA has authorized. Each student should have or be getting an account. Students can submit work via email and you have an immediate electronic documentation of when it was submitted and send back a note (if you want). You can also use Gaggle.net to have kids send email to their parents (with a copy to you) telling what they have accomplished in your class. Let them do the progress reports for a change! |
